Kathy Lette on the seductive message that feminism's work is done

"Any female who calls herself a post-feminist has kept her WonderBra and burnt her brains. Not only do women suffer from facial prejudice [we get judged on our looks in a way that men don't. Hey, how else is Woody Allen still getting laid?!] but we also still don't have equal pay and constantly get concussion from hitting our heads on the glass ceiling. [Plus we're expected to Windex it while we're up there.]

Things get even tougher when you have babies. Being a working mum is very aerobic. This is because the "Have It All" super mum has turned into the "Do It All" drudge. Even though women make up 50% of the workforce, we're still doing 99% of all the housework and childcare. The Dunkirk evacuation would have been easier to handle than a working mum getting her kids up and out of the house in the morning. But do stay-at-home mums have it any easier? I can't imagine a less rewarding or more demanding job. Imagine if Housewifery were advertised in a jobs column. "Must be good at home cooking, making mince interesting, finding the lost glove. All food and entertainment to be supplied by you. Hours - 365 days a year, 24 hours a day. No sick pay, no holiday pay, hell - no pay." Would you take this job? I don't think so
